Movies I've Seen

Note: I rarely watch a movie of my own accord, AKA people have to drag me out to the theatre or pop something on for me to watch a movie. I don't dislike film, it's just not my preferred medium, I suppose. Keep this context in mind when reading my "reviews."

The Minecraft Movie (2025)

  • Good run time, 100 minutes was alright enough to tell the story
  • Danielle Brooks’ part was not fleshed out at all and that sucks, her character felt more like an archetype than an actual person and there was no way to get attached
  • I love Jack Black in this, he really got me through the beginning before the story and action picked up
  • I liked Jason Momoa in this as well (surprisingly), the comedic pairing with Black was better than I expected
  • I went into this completely blind so I had no clue Jennifer Coolidge would make an appearance, the movie is 200% better for it
  • The song choices were not great, it really stuck out to me that they used “Lil Boo Thang” by Paul Russell during the first real jump in the plot and first actual piece of action; I know nothing about movies but I guess they really phoned that part in and budgeted money elsewhere
  • I have feelings about the sentiment “being an adult sucks” because it’s not the growing up that inherently sucks but the systems that people are forced to grow into; I understand this is for families though so I understand why they went with the theme of bringing childlike creativity and passion into the “adult” world to create the world you want to live in
  • I love minecraft so I enjoyed the movie overall for what it was, I had a good time getting to see minecraft brought to “real life” and it was even more enjoyable with my kids. I'm sure my score is heavily influenced by that.

Genre: Family / Comedy / Fantasy
Most enjoyed: Jennifer Coolidge's appearances, hands down

Black Bag (2025)

I like a good spy-themed "who dunnit" movie, and this movie doesn't disappoint there. There's a decent mix of suspense, drama, and comedy, which I enjoyed. I did feel like it was missing some bigger moment or climax; I can't put my finger on why I didn't enjoy this as much as I wanted to.

Genre: Suspense / Drama
Most enjoyed: Marisa Abela's performance. I've not seen her in anything before, and I'd love to see more of her!

One of Them Days (2025)

I didn't exactly feel like the target audience for this, but I still had a good time! It might just be because I'm a fan of Keke Palmer's work. SZA gave a great performance, I think she did well for her first movie role. There's something that felt good about watching a movie that I could tell was made for young black women. More than that, though, it wasn't boring at all and I can see myself rewatching this.

Genre: Comedy
Most enjoyed: The soundtrack

Noteworthy Videos

Videos I'd recommend to anyone! Some videos are U.S.-centric, in terms of politics. I'm considering switching this to my favorite youtube channels, but this will do for now.

I don't want a job. I want to make art.

Alecia is always sharing great nuggets to digest, but this video came at such a resonant time for me. Particularly with everything happening in my country and around the world right now, it's not hard to look around and think there's got to be another way to live cus this ain't it. I think a lot of people are feeling this way, though.
I'm particularly relating to the desire to create as I'm struggling to find a job quickly, or even find the survival drive I once had to finding employment. I've felt so drawn to creating this site and working on my other endeavors but I know that I don't have the luxury of choosing to not have a job right now. But I simply don't want to feel like my energy is being siphoned anymore.

NMIXX(엔믹스) “KNOW ABOUT ME” M/V

Such a visually satisfying MV! I'm also in love with the song (you'll see it featured in my medialog song recs too).

🦴 EYEWITNESS 🦴 Utopian Virtual - Vaporwave - New Age Music Mix

I really enjoy vaporwave mixes, and Deep Sea Current on Youtube makes some of the best themed mixes out there. Their utopian virtual mixes are probably my favorites.

Why Everybody Hates Eric Adams

I knew Eric Adams from the bits and pieces I'd heard about them through the internet grapevine, but I had no idea his time as mayor has been so diabolical. I recommend this video (as well as her subsequent video on the topic and clips from her interview with the very man on the Breakfast Club) to understand why New Yorkers hate this mayor with so much fervor.

Games I've Played

I don't have much time for video games these days. *sigh*

Window Garden - Lofi Idle Game

Currently playing!
The best of all worlds: video games, plants, pixel art, and lofi 🥰 You get to create a digital plant garden with different rooms to set up and so many cute decorations. A ton of cute pot styles, wallpapers, deco items, etc. The music is calming and sets a vibe while watering your plants and decorating. The game art is so pretty, and the lighting shifts with your local time. There are no forced ads!! This is my new favorite game for sure, and I love that I can play for just a few minutes each day if I want/need to in order to care for my digital plant family. They have a vacation mode, though, in case you might not be checking in soon. Possibly the perfect cozy game.

Genre: Simulation / Management

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Currently playing!
I absolutely adore this franchise. I only found out about Ace Attorney a few years ago, but I've been able to play the remastered versions of each game release as they came out with Nintendo Switch copies.

Genre: Adventure / Visual Novel
Released (on Nintendo Switch): 2024
Playing on: Nintendo Switch

Personal rating: Not yet determined, currently loving it!

Merge Survival: Wasteland

Currently playing!
Most match-3 games are so similar that it doesn't matter which one you choose, but this one stands out with its storyline that I genuinely want to keep up with. I also love the theming around conservation and appreciating our planet/natural resources. They've added some new minigames that I don't care for at all, but the guts of the game are great and worth playing. I've been playing since inception, which is not usual for me with mobile games.

Genre: Match-3 game

God Does Like Ugly

Everyone was looking forward to this album, and JID did not disappoint 🥹 I don't know that I can choose favorite tracks, the whole album is phenomenal. Production, amazing. Lyrics, out of this world. This is lowkey a placeholder for more of my review; I really want to sit down and metabolize each track, which I haven't had the chance to do yet.

Let God Sort Em Out (2025)

I only remember the Clipse from back in elementary school when "Grindin'" was the lunchroom beat that we all played with our pencils. I really enjoyed this album and it made me want to listen to their older releases.

Genre/Sound: Rap
Favorite Track: P.O.V. feat. Tyler, The Creator

The Only Love We Know (EP)(2025)

She has such a lovely timbre and I really enjoy her voice, but nothing really grabbed my ear as much as the title track. I'll give it a few more listens (especially since it's only 23 minutes) to see if it grows on me.

Artist: Naomi Sharon
Genre/Sound: R&B
Favorite Track: The Only Love We Know

My Rating:

Fancy That (EP) (2025)

She released this at such a perfect time, it definitely feels like a summer listen. Her first two EPs had a more melancholic vibe but we're getting a warmer and much flirtier side to her with this one (which I really like)! Her choruses are always sooo catchy.

Artist: PinkPantheress
Genre/Sound: Pop
Favorite Track: Tonight

HOT (2025)

No skips. I also really enjoyed "Come Over" as an English single, it's got a jazzy feel that I don't usually hear in kpop, especially as a B-side feature.

Artist: LE SSERAFIM
Genre/Sound: k-pop
Favorite Track: Ash

My Rating:

COLD (2025)

I enjoyed the MV for “Cold” more than I enjoy the actual song; the storyline pulled through the video is much darker than I thought than I expected from this group, which was a pleasant surprise and displayed their ability to make more than tiktok-esque bops. This isn't shade towards the group, their debut single “MACARONI CHEESE” is on my playlist and I thoroughly enjoy a song I can dance to. It's simply nice to see depth to a young group's catalog.

One thing that'll always frustrate me is a kpop 7-track, 20-minute EP where a third of the tracks are interludes and another third is just the same song mixed a bit differently. I have to get used to framing kpop releases as mini-albums that heavily center around a single.

This release isn't really for me.

Artist: Young Posse

Modal Soul (2005)

*relisten

One of my favorite lofi hip-hop albums. If you love the genre, Nujabes is a no-brainer, but I love this album so much that I use it as my alarm/morning soundtrack.

Artist: Nujabes
Genre/Sound: lofi hip-hop
Favorite Track: flowers

My Rating:

King of the Mischievous South (2024)

The production is amazing on this album, I like listening to this whenever I feel like being a nuisance on the streets while I'm driving. He talks a lot about his current lifestyle (which I can't relate to on any level), but that doesn't stop me from enjoying the beats.

Artist: Denzel Curry
Genre/Sound: hip-hop/rap
Favorite Track: HOODLUMZ feat. PlayThatBoiZay & A$AP Rocky

Books I've Read

Bull Moon Rising

I appreciated that the actual plot didn't hinge so much on the romance that I couldn't get into it -- I found the problems Aspeth, the protagonist, ran into compelling. While the ending was unsurprising, it was a pleasure to see just how she was going to get there. I haven't read any fantasy or romance in a very long while, and it was a joy to remember how fun fiction can be. Not a slow-starter, which made it easy to get into.

The physical book itself is GORGEOUS, especially the edge printing. The end is a bit anti-climatic, to be so honest with you. With the politics of the novel being set up and explained led me to believe there'd be more plot movement a la Games-of-Thrones-style. The whole reason Aspeth embarks on the reason for this book is because of her ties to the political powers that be, but I picked up this book because of how pretty it was. It was only once I got into the thick of it that I realized the focus would be less on the politics and more on the sexual frustrations between a beast and human. And it feels so... silly that everything gets wrapped up as smoothly as it does.

I do hope for a sequel, though. I'd like to see where Aspeth's story goes from here and how The Five's journey with the guild goes now that they're Repeaters. I'm also hoping for more on the aftermath of Magpie. Being the first and only woman in the guild ever (until Aspeth and Gwenn came along), we did not get nearly as much detail about her experiences as I would've liked. I suppose it wasn't a bad choice, though, to leave some mystery to her to flesh out later.

49 Days

I don't have much personal experience with death, and I wasn't sure what I was in for when I picked up the book. I found myself on a journey with a soul after passing and seeing how their relatives grieve and move forward as they can. There were times I felt a bit lost in what was happening. I imagine grieving (and perhaps even passing from form) feels a similar way. I appreciated the parallels made between the paths of the living and the path of those no longer in form. I had to be careful not to read to quickly, with very few words between the pages.
